Intrahepatic 2 kinds of aspartate aminotransferase isozymes, respectively, found in the mitochondria of liver cells (mAST) and cytoplasm (sAST). Mild lesions in liver cells, sAST only released into the blood and when the disease seriously, the mAST will have been released into the blood. Serum AST activity increased with the severity of liver cell damage. HBV infection of hepatitis and liver disease, elevated AST ALT smaller, or larger but short, may be largely sAST, clinical significance and same ALT; AST higher than ALT, although nothing too big to continue for a long time, probably the main mAST is prompting lesions of chronic and progressive.
